Please Mind your Business

on May 21, 2013

John 2:1-5, 9-10 (MSG version)

1-3 (MSG) Three days later there was a wedding in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there. Jesus and his disciples were guests also. When they started running low on wine at the wedding banquet, Jesus’ mother told him, “They’re just about out of wine.”

4Jesus said, “Is that any of our business, Mother—yours or mine? This isn’t my time. Don’t push me.”

5She went ahead anyway, telling the servants, “Whatever he tells you, do it.”

Have you or do you know of anyone who tries to push you to doing something that you know God himself has not instructed you to do? Maybe someone always having something to say…yet they don’t know your story, some may call it gossip, I call it being nosy   Even those who will use the Lord name and simply state, “Well, the Lord told me to tell you!” Be mindful of those who will tempt you to move into something that you know deep down you weren’t destined for.  In a moment of such irritation, you may to say tactfully, “Please Mind your business.”

As I read through the 2nd chapter of John (which I encourage you to read in your leisure), I realized His mother wanted Him to move and it wasn’t His time!  Perhaps, someone may be in the process of wanting you to move and God hasn’t instructed, then there are times when He’s saying “move,” and you’re looking around. Of all the verses, the one that I feel is key and what He’s speaking too many of us right now is the 5th verse, His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”  If we were honest with ourselves, and did whatever He has said/saying things would be much better.  I find that sometimes we want to be glorified more than we glorify Him.

9-10(MSG)When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn’t know what had just happened but the servants, of course, knew), he called out to the bridegroom, “Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you’ve saved the best till now!”

He’ll allow you to put your best foot forward and allow you to think that you’re doing something grand, when He still has your best in His hands.  He’ll allow your mess to convey a message, so He can prove the BEST! Don’t allow people or material things to cause you to race through life when God is trying to pace you.  When you try to pursue things instantly, you’ll pay an instant price. He knows… just listen to His voice not MAN, refuse to be persuaded, despite the thoughts of others!

So…Mind your business, so you can focus on His business. Don’t expect Him to enlarge your territory, when you haven’t positioned yourself to allow His glory to be shown. If He turned water into wine…Imagine what He can turn around for you!

Make today powerful–you never know who’s watching! People will always have something to say, but they can’t dictate your purpose! Do what He says….
